The weekend get away was over, we had to leave. I loved the house, and wanted to take it with me. All the nicknacks, the creaks, the rustic charm. It was very dear to me after such a short time.

It came time to say goodbye to my dear old friend Matt, and as we stepped out into the dim light of dawn it began to rain. A line of friends followed us out to the road where the bus stop waited near an underpass. Michelle, Kerry among others, frolicked in the early morning, still buzzed from a euphoric weekend together.

The group sat on a ledge near the roadway that elevated to the west, the rain subsided but the water rushed up the street against the force of gravity.

I crossed the road to take a photo of my pals. Turning around once across, two girls followed but didn't look both ways, and cars almost hit them as they drove by. I thought they were foolish, but also felt guilty because they followed me in the first place.

Trying to frame the shot, it was too dark.

While I was still on the other side of the street, camera to my face, the bus arrived, picked up my friend Matt and drove away. It was over then, and so returned to pack my things to leave.

The weather got worse.

I woke up early and decided to go into work. But when I cast off, I forgot to raise the seat on my bike.

Turning around in the dark morning, I went into the storefront and up the stairs to my home.

Someone was moving out, and had layered the stairs with cardboard boxes. A woman walked down on boxes with bags. I pulled up my bike and got out of her way. She did not apologize, in fact she said nothing.

Lifting my bike, I walked up the stairs of boxes to my apartment. The numbers went down as I went up.

Passing the moving apartment, the door was open and inside was alive with activity. Two toddlers were running around the halls and being loud, no one was paying attention to them. I had to be careful not to hurt them. Again, no one said they were sorry.

Inside my carpeted, windowless bedroom in the small stuffy apartment, I started looking for the wrench I needed to fix my bike. Then I got distracted.

I had to pee, but didn't want to go to use the communal washroom because of all the people moving. I grabbed a glass and started to go. Then another. It kept coming and I couldn't stop it, so grabbed an empty champagne bottle that had a crack in it. I couldn't get the top off with one hand so frantically tried to pee into the crack opening, but most ended up on the floor.

I was mesmerized by all my urine expanding into the carpet, and thought immediately of the tsunami in Japan. I woke up and went to the toilet right away.

Dream from January 7

Became a fast friend with a girl at work, we left with our fancy party clothes on hangars at the end of the day. We were working an event that night, and had time to kill.

Outside, the tide was coming in but the sun was still shining. We went around to the side of the building to retrieve our bikes and we walked and talked, in French some of the time. She set up a blanket on the beach for some late afternoon sun, and asked what I was going to do to pass the time.

I mentioned I had plans with friends.

Justin called me and I was really happy. When I answered, I heard another woman talking and it wasn't to me. I said hello several times until the voice muffled, there was movement and then Justin's voice came over.

"Are you back?" I asked, and he said he was.

"How was your trip?" I asked.

"Meh." He said.

I asked him to join me at the event, and that I was free until 11. He said yes, and to meet him first.

Grabbing my bike and coming back to the front where Genevieve was sun tanning, I told her I was going to see Justin and would meet her later. The tide had come in quite a bit and my things left behind were very close to the water.

She warned me about Justin.

Looking over my shoulder I saw Matt and Kylie walking on the water, I dropped everything and turned to join them.

A programmer at TIFF was having a master class in grammar and syntax, in a retro classroom at our workplace. She had transcribed some extremely sexual paragraphs on the chalk board, and our exercise was to correct them. I chose one, and re-wrote it correctly into E.J.'s really thick black beard with a fine razor blade. I was just about finished when the school bell rang/alarm clock woke me up.

Michelle and I switched bodies with William and Kate, to give them a break. They were visiting us at a hotel in Parkdale and we decided to ride a bicycle together down to the water. When we came back, we discovered the prince and princess had sex in our bodies!

After a year away, my sister and I packed up her car bunny to set sail for home. We pulled out at midnight, picked up Brenna and headed east out of night time Toronto. 15 hours later, we arrived. Mild and sunny, just in time for supper.

And so the family love fest ensued. Eat, nap, eat again. Kitty, dog, fireplace. Snow for a powerless Christmas morning (a pioneer Christmas). Turkey, Ham, Salmon, Beef, Lasagna, Donair Sauce.

BDB6 on the Peninsula. Darts, tarts, rhubarb and cheeseball. Old pals. Brent takes a spill, broken wings in cookie land.

KV Billiards will Billian et al. Sublime covers, condoms in the bathroom, mini David Carey. "Are there any queers in the audience?" My friends make me laugh.

Shelma turns 131 (love you) and I drink through to 2012.

New years with mom and dad, a bottle of bubbly and four legged friends. Last day pack and so it ends.

5am bunny heads west. Grab Lindsey in Forest City, rain, fog, snow, slush, sun, salt, snow, sunset, home Toronto.

A friend recommended that I travel to the north pole, I jumped up and flew there right away. I got to greenland, on a sole patch of bare rock in the whole icy plane. I landed, giant blue wales were beneath it, moving the land. The ice moved with the wales and I rode them to australia in minutes.

The weather was patchy, the water moving downhill from heavy rain miles away, but when I got home I immersed myself in the familiar waters. I waded past my sister and I as children, playing knee deep between the buoys. I submerged myself and swam into the deep waters of the lagoon.

The water stirred, and a current started to push me away from shore. I swam into it, back to where I had come from. The leaves and flowers moving along the waters surface went by, and I noticed some were smoking.

I looked up to the forest behind our cottage home, and saw it was on fire.

Calmly, I touched down and walked through the water up towards my parents and sister, unsuspecting and seated on the dock. Fire was coming up through the trees, my father's head and my mothers face were on fire, but they didn't know until I told them.

I commanded my parents get in the water right away, that I would go into the house and retrieve the irreplaceable. My father insisted he come with me, but I refused, and made Leigh tend to them in the water.

Up at the cottage, I locked the door behind me as I entered thinking my burning father would follow me. The smoke was coming in, the fire would soon be there. I methodically went level by level, first to my fathers wallet, then mine. My mothers purse, my sister's computer.

By then Molly had come in to help me, I checked one more hidden nook in my fathers room, where i found $200 in cash.

As we exited the burning cottage I thought "We have no philosophy in place for a crisis."

Dreams from November 12th

a black pig

Biking in narrow cinder-blocked lanes against pedestrians, my sister follows. Heather walking past in sunglasses with shopping bags, pushes her hand against my sweaty hairy chest. I stop, leaning against the chainlink fence, traffic roaring by. Leigh stops too.

Eric pulls up in a old brown hatchback, and picks up my sister and I. In the car is Lomez the dog and Ed the cat.

We drive down sunny lakeshore boulevard until the trees become big and reach over the street. At the end of the road, is cabin land. Many large ones built under trees, by water, with people around enjoying a summers day.

Eric, Leigh and Ed all exit the car. Lomez and I exit last, we're in love. I have him on a leish, and we head up to the door where Gabrielle is standing. She is pregnant again. Following her out the cabin door comes more cats, dogs, and birds.

A black pig exits and stands at Gabrielle's feet. Lomez wants to meet the pig and I hold back, slowly easing them together. I think the pig will eat Lomez, but they started kissing instead.

martina's burgers

I slept in on the couch at the 'new beverley' until late. I was couch surfing, and staying there for a bit. I woke up to the sound of a small party happening down the hall in the kitchen and in the backyard. When I sat up, Martina came in to wake me and let me know my friends were coming. She was wearing a pink dress, and kissed me on the cheek when I stood up.

She was making burgers, and offered me one. I followed her down the brick hall where the house became unfamiliar. I could smell the bbq and people smoking cigars off the leafy and alive side deck. Michelle stood in the door way, and said Brent was on his way.

Martina came by and offered for us to sit on the roof to eat, said she was cool with people bringing their posses over as well. Then she went to flip the burgers, saying hi to her other friends as she went.

laundry room living room

Leigh and I were living at our parents place, and she came home late that night from a party. She was living in the laundry room but came out to make some stove top stuffing. She filled a white plastic bowl, full to the brim packed perfectly, and then offered me some. I said no thanks, and she went to sleep in the dryer.

I was living in the living room at the front of the house. Tidying up, I discovered traces of bed bugs, and rapidly began to bring all the bedding and cushions out to the front deck. It wasn't cold enough, but it was wet and dark. Triggered by the anxiety of the bugs I realised my parents were dead, which was why Leigh and I lived in that house, and I woke up.

At the Grace afterparty, Katherine wanted to smoke a joint in the middle of the room. She started, but we were bugging people, so moved outside on the steps in the early morning sun.

Later, Paula arrived after drinking 4 beers in between the reception and the party. Said she always did that and was now craving dessert. But there was none.

Biking home from Parkdale with Paula, following who I thought was Oprah in the afternoon sun, we stopped infront of CAMH. When I realise it wasn't Oprah but didn't tell Paula right away, she questioned my trust.

When we took a turn onto Bathurst in the evening, a little girl cyclist following us was struck by a car. Did we stop or keep going?

Yvonne was wearing high heels that made her stand ten feet tall. She looked super-human, and when we walked while smoking cigarettes, she needed to lean on me to support her balance. We walked down the hill, passed star struck onlookers to the Parkdale underpass. There she started doing chin-ups.

I saw Mark Munro, and we were seated on a couch. It didn't look like him, but I knew it was the man I've known for years. As the conversation progressed I became very sad about not seeing him and home more often.

My sister and I had been following a red racoon through the woods for sometime when we came to a water hole. We climbed onto a narrow walkway of a small and old abandoned concrete dam that wobbled with every step.

The racoon went into the water and swam under the dam. Thinking she was crushed when a plume of orange and red emerged from her entry point, we both looked over the side. The shift in weight nearly capsized our dam, and just as quickly the red racoon emerged on the other side gliding happily through the dark water.

She swam to the trees and looked back at us, as if an invition to follow.

My sister entered the water to swim towards her, but I stayed put.

I dropped Steph off on a New York City curb, I was driving on the wrong side of the road. Both sides offered enormous downtown views, Manhattan on one side, San Francisco on the other. Dusky haze over dim windows, Ocean close by.

When I arrived at ground zero, it had become the lobby of First Canadian Place. White marble with gold trim, spiral staircases and water fountains. It was supposed to be stunning, but it was just okay.

On the other side, harbour in front of me, I turned for one final look.

At the exit hung a quilt with a line of sponsor logos sewn into it, the last was from ocad, delicate and matriculate. Two birds pulling string lady and the tramp style, diamond infront of a tree, stating "designed by ocad".

I waited in the customs line at a desert middle-of-nowhere airport, Egypt. Terrorists with guns stood behind me and ahead of me. It was an anxious scene, one of fleeing the country because of a serious crime.

We were going to get caught!

A man in line, scared like the rest of us, started shooting, killing everyone in sight. He soon turned into a little white girl, still in delight of this brutal violence. The girl jumped about, machine guns blazing now, overt, bullet riddled bodies bleeding all over the scene. It was the opening credits to Hennessy Tyler EST. 1985.

When I realized I was in a movie theatre I woke up.

After reading about the discovery of Kelper 16-b, a planet in orbit of twin stars also nick-named 'Tatooine', I was inspired to do a some research. 684 planets have been discovered to date in 474 star systems. All of these within 300 light years of Earth, there's still so much left to look out for.

Working a gala screening at Roy Thomson Hall, all the guests were my co-workers. I seated them one by one, and it started to rain inside the theatre. I brought my colleagues umbrellas so they could stay dry while they watched the movie.

Out at the main door, my sister was the rush line front of house rep. While we were talking a woman in line started to push, so I wrapped my hands around the patrons neck and strangled her as she smiled back at me.

At the edge of the park was a chain link fence with drooping trees on the other side, I looked back to the city and when I turned my friends were gone. I decided to go home by myself, scared to know the night time park was filled with predators. I walked down the hill, slowly, and then behind the bushes saw my enemy. A fat pig man, wearing a suit, watching me. I yelled out knowing he would get me, and I woke up.

Entered the beach I knew so well, now it was destroyed by man's bleachers. Row after row of special stadium seats, on the sidelines of the shore. People talking, watching, bathing in the midnight sun that burned hotter than hell. Flags, radios, lifeguard towers and beach houses rose from the cove. Steep up and away from the black water bubbling with bodies and boats. The environment soiled, disjointed from all I knew as an innocent child. But I was happy to be back, and so slowly joined the water to swim in its change.

I was leaving my father, my partner, at the home I grew up in. I was happy and sad, and so was this man. To get away from him standing on the veranda, I walked down the stairs, across the driveway then behind the garage. Much time had gone by since I was a child at that home. Seasons summer to spring passed as I traveled by fir trees, ferns, and the cedar shingles. By the woodpile on my way to the compost in the woods, snow melted and I looked back to the house. My bed pillow left out through the winter lay on the grass, and dried quickly in the new sunshine.
